The State of Qatar affirmed that it will continue to support Sudan and continue to fulfill its previous pledges and prepare to continue this support, in addition to using various investment tools to examine opportunities in the various economic sectors in Sudan.
This came in the State of Qatar's speech delivered by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi at the International Conference on Sudan.
His Excellency thanked HE President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron and the people and government of the French Republic for hosting this important conference, which aims to support the Republic of Sudan in light of the great political and economic challenges it is going through. His Excellency added that these conditions add to the importance of this conference, which creates an important opportunity to explore investment opportunities and creating the appropriate environment to enhance and develop investment.
Al Muraikhi added that the broad participation of the international community in the conference reflects the great position that Sudan occupies in the regional and international surroundings and the attention that the countries of the world attach to it due to the huge investment opportunities it enjoys in light of the efforts made by the Sudanese government to achieve security, stability and development for the Sudanese people, which doubles hopes for the outcomes of the conference deepens optimism in achieving its desired goals.
He also said that, despite Qatar's conviction of the great potential of Sudan and the ability of its economy to grow and face crises, improving the performance of the economy and reaching sustainable growth has become a necessity more than ever before, as Sudan has the necessary ingredients for the success of any investment which requires developing legislation encouraging foreign investment, further improving the business environment and economic openness, and creating an appropriate environment for that.
HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs emphasized that peace is the main pillar of stability, without which all efforts are lost. He highlighted the experience of the State of Qatar in establishing peace in Darfur, highlighting that the State of Qatar supported peace in the region and hosted talks that lasted more than a year and yielded the Doha Document for Peace. He said that the efforts helped establish peace in the entire region, and helped make it relatively stable. He added that the time has come to establish full and sustainable peace in Darfur and other parts of Sudan.
He noted that the State of Qatar continues to honor the pledges it made in the Doha Donors Conference held in April 2013, highlighting the State of Qatar's experience in building 15 model villages, with each village having a capacity of 100,00 people returning from refugee camps and provided them with drinking water, educational institutions, healthcare, among other facilities.
His Excellency said that the State of Qatar provided government aid to the Republic of Sudan that exceeded $500 million, from the period of 2010-2020. Non-governmental aid crossed the $250 million mark. He stressed that the State of Qatar will continue supporting Sudan and honoring its previous pledges, in addition to using a wide variety of investment tools to examine the opportunities in different sectors.
HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs thanked the President of the French Republic again for hosting the conference and the good reception, wishing the conference success in meeting the aspirations of the Sudanese people
